L’Estartit Camping

by Rick

L'Estartit CampingThinking about the Costa Brava, this year? If you go down through the south east coast of France, you will arrive at the top right hand corner of Spain, or to be more accurate Catalonia. The first major seaside towns you come to are L’Escala and then the more popular L’Estartit. L’Estartit camping is provided by a few very large campsites and a number of smaller ones.

Initially a fishing village, the advent of tourism in the Costa Brava from the 1960s onwards brought a large influx of visitors to the town during the summer months. The community grew exponentially for the next two decades, initially with houses and villas built up the hills that surround the harbour, and later with hotels, apartment blocks and campsites extending along the beach and the flood plain of the Ter estuary.

L’Estartit camping facilities are superb and plentiful. My favourites are Ter and Empordà, both of which I have spent long summers at in 2002 and 2003.
