Traditionally this time of the year is one of the quietest times of the year for motorhome hire companies. The summer is over, the kids are back at school and people are thinking more about what they are doing for Christmas, rather than going away for a break in a motorhome!
This time of year is however ideal for going to Europe. Normally at this time of year my family head off for Vinaros Camping for 3 or 4 weeks. Vinaros Camping is in Spain, just a few kilometres after you leave the Catalan border on Spain’s east coast. The weather there is usually superb, not too hot , just bright and sunny. One strange effect we have noticed at this time of year is that the sea is usually warmer than the swimming pool! I suppose the mediteranean sun has been belting down on it all summer.
Vinaros Camping is one of the cheapest campsites we have ever found in Europe. At this time of year it is only something like 10€/night for a ‘parcela’, this includes electricity too!
Even better the site has one of the cheapest bars too, a small beer is 1€, but a large one is only 1.50€. There is a restaurant where you can have a huge meal for two with wine for about 20€. These prices are of course the ‘low season’ (baja season) rates which is why you should get over to this rather more unknown part of Spain right now.
I fear this part of the coast, the ‘Costa del Azahar’, may not be like this forever as there is a massive resort being created down the road at Oropesa de Mar, which may bring foreign tourists flooding in. But for now I am just going to enjoy Vinaros and Vinaros Camping and of course the 1.50€/pint cerveza!!
