Our Autosleeper Motorhome, a long held dream come true

For many years my husband and I have often   wished  we had a   so we could go off into the sunset and enjoy ourselves.  I recently retired and what better opportunity to realise our dream would there be?

While we were on holiday in South Wales we chanced upon an parked up at Saundersfoot beach and it was for sale.  We thought this is meant to be and we had to check it out – we loved it although we didn’t have any basis for comparison except a holiday round Scotland 35 years previously in an old Ford.  For the next couple of weeks we looked around (admittedly in a limited way as we had no idea where to compare these things).  In the end we still decided the Autosleeper was for us, it was within our price range, in beautiful condition and we could tell it was well kept and loved by the Bacon family, and it would fit on our drive.  So we travelled back to Wales, bought it and drove it home to Cheshire in a high state of excitement and anticipation of the fun to come.  We spent a few days just showing it to our family, giving it a spring clean, buying things for it and generally trying to take all the information in about how to make up the beds in so many ways, how to work the loo and numerous other bits and bobs.  The only way was to go on a trip!

We chose 3 Rivers Country Park as it was not too far to go for a weekend and we knew Clitheroe and the Trough of Bowland would be good to explore.  It felt like an adventure - booking in, deciding which pitch (should we be near the shower block, the club house, up the top so no-one could see we were novices making our mistakes?) and generally settling down, enjoying our first brew etc.   We had a great weekend, 3 Rivers was a pleasant place to stay,  we walked into the village of West Bradford and found The 3 Millstones, a charming pub which had a great menu.  We hopped on a bus to Clitheroe and had a lovely time looking at the shops, exploring the castle and enjoyed a delicious lunch. Then back to the site and our 1st meal in the van.  It was an adventure, we had some laughs at our own expense but we learnt lots for our next trip.  Best of all we were warm and cosy even though it rained all night.  Our 1st fry up was a treat and we enjoyed a trip out in the surrounding countryside which deserves an article of its own.

So next weekend we are off a bit farther a field to The Quiet Site at Ullswater, watch this space……….
